On Sunday night in Tucson, Arizona, a man reportedly burned down his house while attempting to kill spiders with a blowtorch, according to the Daily Mirror, the unnamed homeowner was believed to be trying to exterminate spiders and insects beneath a trailer adjacent to his home.
The Tucson Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, but firefighters suspect the attempt to burn the spiders was the source of the blaze, using a propane flamethrower, the man’s mobile home caught fire, prompting a massive response from 23 firefighters to extinguish the blaze, the fire was brought under control in 11 minutes, but by that time, the mobile home was damaged beyond repair.
There were no fatalities, but according to ABC15, one elderly woman was evacuated with minor injuries, local officials quoted by ABC15 noted that open flame burning is not permitted within Tucson city limits.
