A former police officer continues to assert that he was abducted by aliens during a patrol, even after 37 years.
Alan Godfrey’s alleged ‘close encounter’ brought him fame in 1980 but also led to the end of his career as a police officer. In his revealing book, the 70-year-old claims his superiors attempted to silence him and have him committed.
“This is the story of secret forces and cover-ups, plus terrifying attempts to destroy a brave officer’s career,” he boldly states.
The incident, which occurred on November 28, 1980, made national headlines. Godfrey was even interviewed by Frank Bough on BBC Breakfast. However, his newfound fame came with consequences. He was banned from Todmorden police station, effectively ending his nine-year tenure with West Yorkshire Police.
The strange encounter began while Godfrey was investigating a case of missing cows. He reported seeing a UFO hovering over his patrol car. Unable to call for help due to a dead radio, he sketched the object on his notepad.
He experienced 30 minutes of ‘missing time’ and later underwent hypnosis to recover his memories. To his shock, he recalled seeing small beings and a tall man with a beard performing medical tests on him.
Godfrey said, “Someone was determined to stop at nothing to undermine my efforts to tell the truth. It turned into a nightmare and cost me dearly, but speaking about it is the right thing to do.”
He revealed that he had remained silent about the events during his police career and the subsequent strange occurrences. After falling ill a year ago, he decided to document his experiences so his grandchildren would know the truth.
“This book tells it like it is—everything that occurred but which someone did not want you to read,” he said.
Godfrey described the UFO as being the size of a double-decker bus, rotating, and then suddenly vanishing, leaving him 30 yards further down the road. When he returned to the scene, he found the road dry despite recent rain. A passing bus driver also noticed the same anomaly.
The experience grew stranger as images of unusual beings and medical experiments reemerged in his memory. His book, titled Who or What Were They?, reflects his ongoing quest to understand what happened.
