WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Biden took a moment from his relatively open schedule on Wednesday to address the nation regarding his decision to withdraw from the presidential race. His reason? A desire to spend more quality time at home with friends and family.

“My fellow Americans, on Sunday I officially dropped out of the presidential race,” Biden began. “Though I intended to seek re-election, it soon became apparent to me that I needed to spend more time at home sniffing friends and family. I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to sniff people I know, not politicians and foreign leaders.”

The brief televised address left a lasting impression. President Biden also mentioned his interest in engaging more with ordinary citizens. “I’m coming for you, America,” he said at one point, with a wide grin.

Rumors that Biden had been forced out of the race against his will or had come to harm were put to rest by his address. He explained that he just wanted to enjoy his later years in a more relaxed manner.

“I mean, it makes sense,” said one voter.

Republican Senator Mitt Romney was quick to commend Biden on his address. “He’s given up so much time being with his own family,” he remarked. “I sure wish I could spend more time with my friends and family. Alas, I am Mormon.” Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi also expressed her well wishes and sadness that the president would no longer be a familiar presence.

Biden concluded his address with a reference to his previous statements about Trump: “Look, I know I said Trump is an existential threat to the United States and that I was the only one who could defeat him, but anyway…” He then began blinking rapidly, which led some to speculate that he might have been delivering his speech under duress.

“I am literally ugly crying right now because that speech was so beautiful,” Alyssa Milano posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

At the end of the address, Biden humorously mentioned pardoning his son Hunter. “I almost forgot!” he said, laughing. “That was a close one!”
